Tell me who this serves. The federal government demands that even small self-employed business people pay tribute in the form Department of Transportation registration fees before they're allowed to work. Let this sink in a little.
Does this make new construction more or less expensive? Does this create or destroy jobs? Does it enhance or diminish prosperity? And why does the DOT feel compelled to regulate small, evidently modest, workers like this? Can they not be trusted to load their toolbox and a few two-by-four's into the back of the van without a government overseer? Now multiply this additional expense across every contractor, landscaper and other small business people in America.
This is a modern-day version of the Stamp Tax. Time for another party.
